MY OFFERINGS FOR INDIVIDUALS

Abi’s Singing Studio

On this page, you will learn a bit about my ethos, and the range of services I offer for individuals. I run a busy private practice, Abi's Singing Studio. This is the home for all voice work with my lovely students and clients. With 20+ years of experience, I specialise in voice coaching and singing teaching to individuals of all ages and backgrounds. I work with actors, singers, and within the community, often supporting neurodivergent and chronically ill students.

If you are a current student or client, please use the button below to log in to our portal. If you would like to enquire about working together, please get in touch.

My offerings are specialised in gentle, mindful practices and I welcome students of all abilities from novice to professional, including people with additional needs, PMLD, life-limiting or chronic illnesses. I work with all ages (including 5 - 80) either online or in-person at an intersection of psychology, voice coaching, singing teaching and music education.

Ethos: Therapeutic Singing for All Voices

I offer 1:1 therapeutic singing lessons for voice confidence tailored to each individual’s needs, emphasising relaxation, breath work, confidence building, voice exploration, song, and text study. I have over 20 years of experience working with people living with stammering, autism, dyslexia, long-term COVID-19, dementia, hearing loss, bereavement, chronic illness, and various mental health conditions. With a supportive and inclusive environment, all students and clients have access to an online portal featuring bespoke and exclusive resources to support their learning journey. Safely executed within a unique and original evidence-based framework, all new enquiries are guided on a bespoke discovery journey to ensure the right fit is found for you and your needs.

Professional Voice Coaching

I also provide professional voice coaching for actors, singers and voice artists. This coaching includes all aspects of storytelling and interpretation through voice work, including textual analysis, sound creation, voice psychology, vocal relation, vocal health and agility.

I also provide support for examination entries and auditions. I work with examiners who are dedicated to putting students at ease and are experienced with particularly nervous students. My students have achieved excellent exam results, with a 100% pass rate throughout the past twenty years. Former students have worked with the BBC, in the West End, and gained entry into SLP College, Italia Conti, Bird College, UCL, East 15, Oxford, and many others.

Time and space are given to just ‘be’ with your voice. I cannot recommend Abi highly enough.

Voice Care for All Ages

I am passionate about high-quality voice care, throughout all stages of life, and for all genders. I was a member of the first cohort to qualify as a Vocal Health First Aider. This enabled me to have the practical skills required to spot a range of vocal dysfunction and imbalance, together with keeping up to date with the very latest thinking in vocal health.

I am deeply committed to the principles of vocal health and as such, I am an associate member of Vocal Health Education and the Voice Care Centre Referral Network, a large multidisciplinary team for vocal health. This ensures my students and clients are looked after within the highest of standards.

Singing for Health

I have extensive experience designing and delivering long-term and short-term programmes of sensitive singing facilitation for adolescent mental health, dementia, palliative care, bereavement, chronic, and acute long-term illness. These programmes can be delivered 1:1 in my private studio, or with small groups based in the community, health and social care settings.

These offerings work at an intersection of psychology, music education, singing for health and voice pedagogy. For a full list of my qualifications and certifications, please get in touch.

“The work I deliver is highly sensitive and is shaped around therapeutic education.”

The work I deliver is highly sensitive and is shaped around therapeutic education. My work is uniquely crafted from evidence-based research, practical experience and specialist training. For all new clients and students, I arrange a pre-consultation. This helps us to understand the needs and goals behind our potential work together, to ensure we find the right fit for you.

My ethical promise is explicit about the difference between therapeutic educational practice and clinical therapy. I hold a BPS Accredited Psychology degree, however, I am not a clinical therapist. If you are looking for music therapy, I highly recommend the British Association of Music Therapists as a starting point in finding the right clinician for you.

It’s never too late to learn a new skill.

Please remember it is never too late to learn a new skill. I have often heard the phrase ‘I wish I could sing, but I can’t’. After talking further with people,  this is usually because they have been told by someone earlier in life that they ‘can’t’ or they compare themselves to others and believe their voice should remain hidden. Being afraid of singing is very common; the difference between other musical instruments and singing is that the voice is an instrument that is a part of you, not something you carry about in a box. It is a very personal part of who you are. I have several students who are in their retirement and learning to find their voice - and love doing so!

Whether you decide to take up singing lessons or not, please remember that everybody can sing and music is for everyone.

Additional Services

I believe passionately in high quality music education. General musicianship and reading music is not to be feared. Keep reading for the additional services I offer, both online and in-person. Please enquire if you would like further information.

Music Theory and Musicianship Lessons

When learning a new instrument, whatever it may be, people can sometimes feel daunted about also having to learn the skill of reading music, especially when this is completely new to them. I am happy to provide additional tutoring and guidance on the theory of music in separate, bespoke 1:1 lessons.

I also regularly tutor and enter students for the Graded Theory of Music Examinations with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). The lessons can take place on a regular or ad-hoc basis, in the comfort of your own home via online video lessons. I offer regular theory lesson slots, as well as theory distance learning packages. Please get in touch to discuss further.

Other topics I teach and mentor include listening, artist study, playlist and music appreciation, music and memory, improvisation and the history of music.

I’d love to hear from you

Weddings

I always feel very honoured to be able to help a couple celebrate their special day. I strive to make the performance reflect who you are as a couple and as such I am happy to arrange music that you desire wherever possible. I can also offer a recommended list of suggestions for wedding music.I understand how important a wedding day is for a couple and therefore I always include one or more consultations before the big day to go through the music and ensure everyone is happy with the final performance plans.

We want to thank Abi for giving such a flawless performance
